Wheatgrass is produced from the first leaves of the wheat plant and is grown today around the world. Usually sold as a fresh juice at juice bars or in powder form, wheatgrass touts a host of nutritional benefits. Even ancient Egyptians were rumored to prize wheatgrass for its health properties.

 The primary reason for the revered status of wheatgrass in the wellness community is primarily its high chlorophyll content. Chlorophyll purifies the liver and leads to increased red blood cell production, accelerating the renewal of cells and protecting against carcinogens. Wheatgrass could also have the ability to stave off illness. In addition to the 90 other minerals that wheatgrass contains, it has more Vitamin C than an orange. Wheatgrass also contains protein in the form short chains of amino acids that are easily broken down and absorbed by the body. Amino acids are essential for the repair and growth of muscle tissue – this could be why we’ve recently seen bodybuilders at our gym chase down their protein shake with a shot of wheatgrass.
